Terrifier, Everything You Need to Know About the Trilogy

Terrifier 2016 Review Everything You Need to Know About Art the Clown

I was first introduced to the infamous Killer Clown, “Art” aka The Terrifier, while watching the 2008 short film. The Terrifier (2016) movie had just been released and was creating quite a buzz. Damien Leone quietly worked on the sequel, Terrifier 2 before commencing a third installment releasing in 2024. The release of the second title generated excitement among horror movie enthusiasts, as it promises to deliver a straightforward yet excellently executed gore fest. Mike Giannelli is the mastermind behind all of Art the Clown’s antics and has become just as renowned as the Clown himself. Once you’ve experienced the terror of this malevolent clown, the realm of horror movies will never look the same again.

Scariest Clown Movies Ever

If you’re keeping up with news on this pesky killer clown, you will already know and have watched the sequel. Art returned to Miles County to stalk, maim, and destroy another teenage girl after being brought back from the dead. Terrifier 2 movie proclaimed bigger, better, and nastier kills. However, none will ever beat the origin film’s goriest slice and dice to date. The film is distributed by Dark Age Cinema and widespread carnage was included. Like the first film, the sequel was released on Halloween, 2022 (October) with Samantha Scaffidi and David Howard Thornton returning. Also, cast in the sequel are Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Griffin Santopietro (Cobra Kai), and Lauren LaVera (Iron Fist.)

The sequel picks up where the first film left off. Once resurrected he trots off to Miles County to embark upon some Halloween carnage involving a teenage girl and her brother.

Release Date Terrifier 2?

As stated just now, Terrifier 2 hit screens during 2022’s Halloween. Art, the Clown went head to head with Micheal Myers. According to Imbd.com, 44000 people signed on and rated it with a rating of 6.1/10. On the other hand, Halloween was rated by 70000 people but is rated at 5/10. You can decide for yourself what that means.

Terrifier Movie Review (2016)

Art the Clown is by far my favorite on-screen clown. What’s more, that means I like this movie more than the shapeshifting clown from Derry, “Pennywise”. No matter how you feel about gore-forward films and seemingly nonsensical stories, the Terrifer 2016 is very well made. There are plenty of naysayers who call rubbish on the acting. I liked it. Additionally, there are plenty of cinephiles who call rubbish on the story.

They say it has no character depth. A simple story is harder to pull off than a complicated one. It leaves nowhere to hide. And I think Art the Clown is as terrifying as he is complicated. On top of that, Art is a particularly complex villain. To know who he is, you have to have already caught glimpses of him in earlier films.

Call me old-fashioned but “Art the Clown” can stand up to any of the slasher villains. Jason VoorheesChucky, Leatherface, and Michael Myers. Art is calculated, sinister, and playful in a nihilistic way. Plenty of our favorite iconic slasher killers do so silently and for a horror character that doesn’t speak and is reliant solely on facial expressions and gestures, I adore his guts out.

Why is the Terrifier So Scary?

The story for the Terrifier movie is about three women on a bender on Halloween night. Art starts his journey in the limelight by entering a café with his trash bag. The narrative brings what seems like an outdated villain into the present by having Dawn (Catherine Corcoran) snap a sexy selfie with the new slasher icon.

For a low-budget modern tale, the kill scenes in the Terrifier movie are extreme, unique, and; surprising. If you think you’ve seen it all as a fan of extreme horror, you should probably watch it. When you see what Art the Clown is capable of it leaves questions about what’s in store for the Terrifier sequel. What’s more, director Damien Leone draws from all types of horror tropes and themes and then sticks his bloody-filled stamp all over it.

Terrifier Is The Best Clown Movie

In conclusion, horror tropes may seem overused, but the way they are presented in this film will leave you pleasantly surprised. Every character’s seemingly inane actions are well thought out and serve a deeper purpose within the story. Unlike other horror films, there is no unnecessary “who’s there” moment, as the audience and the characters are well aware of the impending danger. The setting of the town and the building, although strangely devoid of foot traffic, adds to the eeriness of the atmosphere. Overall, the storyline is flawlessly crafted, akin to the tight chains that bind our protagonist in the chilling basement. Don’t miss out on this unique cinematic experience!

The Original Art the Clown Short Film

Firstly, if you haven’t seen the short film featuring Art the Clown’s starring role, you can watch it here. Secondly, it’s ridiculously cool, so make sure you do.

#The9thCircle2008 The 9th Circle 2008. A short film featuring the killer clown that's not in circulation.
Written and directed by Damien Leone

The 9th Circle (2008) Short film 11 minutes

I cannot find this short film to rent/buy or stream on any service I have. Could the success of the original film have reignited Damien Leone’s goal of turning it into a feature film? Has it been pulled from online viewing? In any case, Art the Clown was featured in The 9th Circle for about 4 minutes.

All Hallows Eve Film (2013) The First Terrifier Movie in the Trilogy

If this is Damien Leone’s first feature film and Terrifier is his second, give this man some money. All Hallows Eve has a rapey devil and more in this taut but low-budget anthology film. In All Hallows Eve, Art comes into play alongside a plethora of other villains.

The All Hallows Eve movie does contain scenes that give some much-needed backstory into who Art, as a character is. We find out where he came from, and who his family is. Although I didn’t see the pumpkin head killer from the sequel in All Hallows Eve, he might have still been somewhere in the Hallows Eve universe but without a speaking or killing role.
All Hallows Eve is a cool and chaotic anthology film with a wrap-around story.

The story is about a babysitter looking after two kids on Halloween night. Interestingly, parts of the trailer for The 9th Circle are seen on the VHS tape watched in this movie. The VHS tape tells some scary stories as the babysitter realizes Art and his mob of killers are becoming more and more real.

All Hallows Eve 2 (2015)

The All Hallows Eve movie gets cited as part of the Terrifier movies trilogy by Damien Leone. But, All Hallows Eve 2, does not have Art the Clown. It does, however, have the same wrap-around story for its anthology titles as “All Hallows Eve” showing a woman putting on a VHS tape and watching short films. Additionally, this horror movie features 8 short films from different directors. Art the killer clown is not featured in any of the featured scary stories and additionally, none of the previous characters are in it either. Instead “All Hallows Eve 2” uses a pumpkin-faced killer instead of Art. Close but no cigar on being tied to our favorite clown killer.
